Severe Flood Damage on Thassos

Sunday, November 30, 09:00 As the severe weather from the “Adel” storm system finally abates, the destruction caused on Thassos from the torrential rain, especially in the communities of Potamia and Panagia, has become apparent.

The last 48 hours were difficult for both residents and the authorities, as the deluge caused extensive damage to ground-floor houses, shops and warehouses and tore up sections of road in and around the village of Potamia.

Swollen streams broke from their banks, sweeping away anything in their path, including parked cars.

The mayor of Thassos has appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to follow the instructions of the competent services as the wide-ranging reconstruction and repair work on the island begins.
