Warning of Further Increases in Temperatures!
Authorities are warning that due to the existing Heat Dome weather phenomenon affecting central and southern Europe, temperatures in Greece are expected to rise further from Monday, July 7, reaching the high 30s to low 40s Centigrade.
Across the region, local authorities have issued fresh advice regarding the severe risk to health and the threat of wildfires from the extreme conditions.
Severe temperatures have also been recorded in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal before the weekend, with locals and tourists alike taking shelter from the sweltering conditions.
The definition of a Heat Dome involves the trapping of hot air in an area that leads to prolonged, extreme, dangerous heat waves and, in many cases, historical ones, as is the case with the current heat wave that is being experienced, especially in Iberia.
The heat wave conditions are expected to last well into next week.
