Taxi Dispute on Rhodes

September 09 – Hundreds of Rhodes taxis are driving in convoy from Rhodes Town to the island’s airport, stopping at Mandraki below the Regional Town Hall, this afternoon. They are participating in a greater nationwide 48-hour strike today and tomorrow in response to government changes which are seen as an attack on privately owned taxis in the country.

Specifically on Rhodes, the dispute is demanding a stop to unfair competition practices and the hijacking of transport projects that are being carried out, as they claim, by privately owned vans and hotel courtesy vehicles on the island.

Tomorrow, September 10, there will be a further protest outside the tourist port in Rhodes Town.
