The Greek government’s “Zero Tolerance for Not Wearing a Helmet” campaign came into force countrywide in 2025, aiming at the universal compliance of owners and riders of two and three-wheeled vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and including Light Personal Electric Vehicles to wear helmets.

In 2026, police in all regions will be increasing the checks of riders of mopeds, motorcycles, three-wheelers, and rental vehicles to ensure compliance with the law.

Despite previous intensive controls, the number of deaths and serious injuries from traffic accidents remains high, with the failure to wear a helmet being a major determining factor in the overall outcome of road accidents involving motorised open vehicles.

The penalty per person for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle, scooter or ATV in Greece is a 350 euros fine and a 60-day license suspension for the driver, or up to six months for repeat offenders. The penalty also applies to tourists riding any rental vehicle included in the categories above.
