Thassos will take delivery of a long-awaited medical emergency response patrol boat on Wednesday, February 11.

The state-of-the-art craft is designed to improve medical transfers to the mainland, as well as to support search and rescue operations, fast patrol operations, boarding and inspections, diving support, and other maritime requirements.

The craft, a Viking Norsafe Munin S-1200, will contain the latest medical equipment and can operate safely in conditions up to Beaufort Force 8 and wave heights of four metres, reaching speeds of over 40 knots, and has an operating range of more than 300 nautical miles at full load and economical speed.

The staff have already completed training, so that the vessel can immediately enter service with the island’s health and Coast Guard services.
