EU Ban on Hand Luggage Reintroduced

Air travellers should be aware that from September 8, 2024, all airports in the European Union returned to the ban on any liquids above 100ml in volume being carried in hand luggage and the need for laptops to be independently inspected.

In mid-June 2024, the UK government also announced that the ban including liquids above 100ml was reintroduced at British airports.

Reports have stated that it is due to discrepancies that have been found in the accuracy of the new CT X-ray technology scanners to identify some liquid containers being carried in bags, leading to the ban returning from Sunday until “technical issues with the new equipment can be addressed”.

This means that holidaymakers returning home from the EU will not be allowed to carry on board any liquid containers above 100ml, including such things as perfume, local tipples, or olive oil.
