General Strike, Greece, October 1
The major public and private sector unions in Greece have announced a 24-hour nationwide strike for Wednesday, October 1st.
The general strike is a reaction to the new labour bill proposed by the government, which would provide for a 13-hour workday, among other labour issues.
The strike is expected to disrupt local government services, public hospitals, urban and intercity transport, ports, ferries, railways and air travel. A number of airlines have already announced the cancellation of both internal and international flights on the 1st.
The main teachers’ unions have also urged their members to join the action.
