Jellyfish and Anemone Sting Treatment
After a jellyfish or sea anemone sting, immediate intervention is required. If any tentacles or stingers remain in the affected area, remove them using gloves or an object; do not use your bare hands.
For stings, it is recommended that baking soda (Greek: μαγειρική σόδα) diluted in equal parts with seawater is applied to the sting to neutralise the neurotoxin. Then wash thoroughly with alkaline solutions, such as an oil soap, and then apply a cortisone or antibiotic cream. An ice pack helps with vasoconstriction, which can reduce the symptoms.
Depending on the intensity of the symptoms, you should contact a pharmacy, doctor, or health centre, as left without care, a sting can cause serious complications, such as nausea, tendency to vomit and tachycardia (rapid heartbeat). Those who have an allergy should be particularly careful.
