New Era for the Water Scooter!

Water scooters are not a new concept, the large and weighty bulbous torpedo-shaped ones have been available for some years, but the advent of Lithium batteries on the scene has meant that a new, much smaller, lighter (6.4lbs) and more transportable design has arrived onto the market.

The Sublue WhiteShark Mix Underwater Scooter employs two electric motors that provide up to a total of 17.6lbs of thrust, propelling you up to 3.4 mph and down to a reported depth of 131′. Designed for both snorkelling and subaqua, they add a new dimension to your sea adventures.

Simply grab the handles, squeeze the triggers, and off you go. Attaching the floater unit (included in our pack) adds positive buoyancy, so the craft won’t sink. A high-capacity Lithium Ion battery, battery charger with AC adapter, and a safety strap are included with the WhiteShark Mix. The portable design allows the WhiteShark Mix and accessories to be packed away inside the included carry bag for transportation to your next adventure. A built-in camera mount means that you can also add your GoPro, or similar action cam and capture your wonderful underwater moments.

We see the Sublue as being of interest not only to adventure seekers but also yacht owners and Subaqua schools.

The Sublue comes at a price that is trending at around £600 – £700 (in the US $699) plus shipping, so it doesn’t fall into the category of an impulse buy, that said, we are sure it would add a lot of fun to a holiday, or your next trip to the sea!

After a number of test days in the sea around Thassos, we have to say that the Sublue creates a lot of interest and admiration from both tourists and locals!

We can confirm battery life is around the 30-minute plus mark, depending on use, but the battery is easy to swap over (extra batteries are trending at around £150). Charging the battery from flat takes around 3 hours.

The Lithium Ion battery is FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) compliant and therefore should be accepted on-board by airlines, but it is always best to check with your airline before travelling.

The design and build of the Sublue is quality, solid and easy to hold. A number of us have now used the Sublue in the sea and all were impressed with the power and agility. Water tests show that it is slightly faster than the old water scooter design and we found it easy to steer through the water.

Our only suggestion to Sublue would be to supply a larger more useful bag with extra pockets, as the one supplied with the scooter is basic and will not take both the Sublue and the floater. However, we found a perfect multi-pocketed waterproof bag in a local shop for only £11.

There are a number of dealers stocking the Sublue in the US (including Amazon.com) and Australia. Aquatoys are stockists in the UK, link to their website below:-
