On Orthodox Good Friday, May 3, as part of the Greek Orthodox celebration of Easter on the island, Pyrgos will stage its amazing annual village illuminations.

The old Venetian castle and the entire village below is lit with lanterns, which creates a dramatic and highly spiritual experience for the visitor.

Due to high winds this afternoon prior to tonight’s event, the island’s Department of Civil Protection has decided to cancel the event.
