Bogus Holiday Illness Claims
Please be aware that a number of unscrupulous companies are cold calling British holidaymakers when they return home, persuading them to make fraudulent or exaggerated sickness claims. Some are even using touts in holiday resorts.
As reported in the UK press, British holidaymakers have been prosecuted for making false claims with a real risk of imprisonment either at home or in their holiday destination. There’s also the prospect of being blacklisted from future travel or ordered to pay large fines for dishonesty by UK courts.
A British couple recently found guilty of a fraudulent claim were each given a 12-month suspended jail sentence, ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid community work, and handed a bill for £1,115 to cover court costs and a victim surcharge.
