UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, stated today that there may be some easing of international travel from the UK after May 17. However, he added that the government “will be very, very tough on it’s approach”

The UK’s cross party parliamentary group on Coronavirus, which consists of 60 MPs and Peers, has confirmed that in their view the government should discourage people from travelling abroad unless it is essential, as airports are a “breeding ground” for the virus, with people arriving from red, amber and green listed countries often mixing in overcrowded arrival halls

Further information on the UK’s plans for international travel this summer is expected this week.

Research by Imperial College London has shown that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine protects against Covid mutations, with the two doses producing an overwhelming immune response. The research initially focused on a single dose, which they found gives broad protection, although weaker in people who had never been infected by the virus. For those who had previously had Covid, ‘enormous’ levels of immunity were achieved through the second dose, giving a person total safety from serious disease. The researchers believe that after the two full doses, all recipients will show a very high level of immunity to all strains of the virus
