The UK Bans Products Brought in from the EU
The UK government has imposed a temporary ban on a wide range of food products being brought into the UK by travellers from the EU, due to a growing number of countries in the EU reporting cases of foot-and-mouth disease.
The restrictions apply regardless of whether the products are professionally packaged or not, and include sandwiches and even food products purchased from a duty-free shop.
The list of banned food products includes:
- pork
- beef
- lamb
- mutton
- goat
- venison
- other products made from these meats, for example, sausages
- milk and dairy products like butter, cheese and yoghurt
Any banned products found in a traveller’s luggage will be seized and destroyed, with the offender facing a fine of up to £5,000.
