Dogs, Beaches and the Law?
According to the law in Greece, dogs are allowed access to unrestricted and open beaches, even permitted to swim in the sea; however, the dog is required to be on a lead and under control at all times, and any excrement is picked up and disposed of by the owner.
On organised beaches, by law, only registered dogs such as guide dogs are allowed. Even so, outside the sea, the use of a lead is mandatory, and the animal’s owner must also have the dog’s health booklet with them, so that, if requested by the authorities, they can prove that it is fully vaccinated.
However, on licensed beaches where beach bars operate, each business will have its own regulations regarding pets.
