UK Airport Chaos

Wednesday, September 9 – Flight delays, which caused chaos across the UK yesterday, are expected to continue for a second day as air traffic control technical issues led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights to and from UK airports.

Tens of thousands of passengers have already been affected by system failures at NATS, the UK’s air traffic control provider.

With aircraft departures unable to take off in the UK, landings were restricted, leading to incoming flights to the UK being diverted to European airports and some flights to the UK from overseas airports being cancelled altogether.

The problems were widespread across the UK, with airports in Scotland and Ireland also reporting disruption. EasyJet had to cancel 200 flights, with British Airways cancelling more than 100.

Hundreds of flights have already had to be cancelled today, Wednesday, September 9, and the chaos is compounded by the fact that many aircraft are at the wrong airport for their planned schedule.
