Campaign against those not Wearing a Helmet continues
During the second week of September (8 – 14 September), the “Zero tolerance for not wearing a helmet” campaign by the Greek Police, which is aimed at universal compliance by drivers and passengers of two-wheelers, as well as ATV’s and users of Light Personal Electric Vehicles (electric scooters), 2,600 violations were confirmed by drivers as well as violations by passengers, with s total of 23,295 checks carried out across the country.
Throughout this summer, Police Departments across the country are conducting strict checks on motorcycles, motorcycle rental businesses, tourists on rented bikes and ATVs and professional delivery bikes and their employers.
The latest data confirms that the offensive against those violating the Highway Code Law is sending a clear message of zero tolerance towards the non-use of a helmet on two-wheeled vehicles and ATVs. The penalties for non-compliance with the law are as follows:
– 350 euro fine and withdrawal of driving license for 30 days for the two/four-wheel vehicle driver (The same sanctions apply to the driver who does not ensure the safety of the passenger).
– 350 euro fine for the passenger of the vehicle.
– 30 euro fine for the user of a Light Personal Electric Vehicle (electric scooter).
The campaign’s aim is to change the perception of drivers and passengers regarding the mandatory wearing of a certified helmet as an elementary and essential life protection measure.
