The mountainous interior of Thassos is incredibly beautiful and highly recommended to experience. However, the interior is also dangerous for those unfamiliar with the hundreds of unmarked rough tracks and trails that criss-cross the mountains. There are also deep ravines and precipitous drops of hundreds of metres that add to the hazards for the inexperienced.

In the last few years, a number of tourists have become lost in the mountains and were forced to call out the emergency services. Thankfully all were eventually found safe and well.
