World Lighthouse Day 2025, Santorini

As part of the celebration of ‘World Lighthouse Day’, on Thursday, August 7, the public will have the opportunity to visit free of charge twenty-eight lighthouses across Greece, including Akrotiri on Santorini.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the contribution of lighthouses to the safety of maritime navigation, the utilization of the lighthouse network as a cultural heritage, as well as the lives of lighthouse keepers.

Akrotiri Lighthouse was built by a French company in 1892, making the lighthouse one of the oldest in Greece. It ceased operating during World War II, but was recommissioned by the Greek Navy in 1945. The location of the lighthouse is famous for its sunset views.
