Remains of Alexander the Great’s Father Confirmed
Forty years after the bones of suspected royalty were found within a tomb complex at Vergina, Northern Greece, experts have confirmed that one set of skeletal remains belong to Alexander the Great’s father, King Philip II.
If travelling through Greece, the museum at Vergina is a ‘must see’, being one of the best presented and most dramatic archaeological sites in Greece. The tombs, which after the burials, were covered by a tumulus to protect against robbers, now lie under a concrete dome which forms the roof of the museum. The subterranean complex not only contains amazingly preserved tombs but also a wealth of priceless artefacts that were placed in them.
