On September 20, the Greek government issued the first two permits for the operation of seaplane services from the northern city of Alexandroupolis and the island of Samothraki, a distance of around 55 km.

The relevant permit for a service between the city of Kavala and the island of Thassos is still to be discussed. If the service goes ahead, flight times would be less than 30 minutes.

Greece’s transport ministry is supporting the creation of a comprehensive waterway network and seaplane ports across Greece to improve links between islands and the islands to the mainland.
