Summer Quiet Hours
In Greece, it is the law that at designated times during the day, excessive noise is prohibited. From April 1, the ‘Winter Quiet Hours’ end and the ‘Summer Quiet Hours’ come into force.
The new designated quiet hours are 15:00 to 17:30 and 23:00 to 07:00. These run until September 30 when the winter hours are reintroduced. The rules include, amongst a long list, the noise from construction and manufacturing work, the noisy loading or unloading of goods on or from trucks, the use of vehicles producing excessive noise and vehicle, residential, or retail alarms.
The loud playing of musical instruments, audio equipment, radios or televisions, shouting and loud singing are also prohibited during the restricted times. If the rules are contravened, residents are allowed to make a complaint to the local police to restrain the offenders.
