Traditional Greek Village
For those who would like to visit a traditional Greek village, we recommend a trip to Theologos in the mountains to the south of the island. This pretty village was once the capital, with its myriad small alleyways, traditional schist-roofed houses, a folklore museum and a stream running below the village.
One of the most photographed attractions is the old Gefyri Bridge that spans the stream. All this makes the village a perfect setting for a leisurely walk.
A must-visit whilst in the village is the Watermill Cafe Taverna (photo below), located in the valley next to the village, where you will find a working watermill surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Added attractions in the village are several quaint churches, traditional Greek dancing and music in the evenings at the local tavernas and a sandal-maker in the middle of the village, where you can watch the dying art of ‘cobbling’ and even buy a pair made to measure!
In July/August each year, the village presents a ‘Traditional Greek Wedding’ event, when the village is decorated and adorned with flowers to celebrate this theatrical presentation of the traditional Greek marriage ceremony. Entertainment will include live traditional music and dancing. The event is to take place this year on Wednesday, August 12, starting at 19:00.
The road that leads up to the village is off the main island road in the centre of Potos.
