Firefighters are battling major wildfires in Spain, Portugal and France, with thousands forced to evacuate their homes and move to safer areas.

In Southern Spain, at least 11 people have died, and 19 others are missing. Official reports have indicated that four of the victims are British citizens.

In Spain a major incident has been declared with a large force, including regional fire crews, locals and aerial support, fighting the fires. The fire fronts have now spread to a wooded area around Los Gallardos, Almería.

A sustained heatwave with temperatures of around 40°C (104°F) has led to numerous wildfires across southern Europe this summer.
