Long delays at passport control at some European airports due to the new Entry Exit System (EES) have caused some passengers to miss return or connecting flights, leading the UK boss of Wizz Air to advise travellers to arrive at the airport well in advance of their flight.

But a European Commission spokesperson said EES was working well at “almost all border crossing points”.

However, Greece has suspended biometric checks at its borders for certain third-country nationals, including UK nationals, to prevent disruption over the summer.
