High Fire Risk Areas Closed
Due to the extreme risk of wildfires on the Northern Greek islands, including the island of Thassos, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection has imposed a ban on all movement in high-fire-risk areas, such as forests, tomorrow, August 12, and it will remain in place until further notice.
The order states, “A ban is in place on the passage, stay and movement of persons and vehicles in national forests, peri-urban forests, forest ecosystems, parks and groves located in high-risk areas for the prevention of forest fires on the islands until advised otherwise”.
On the heavily forested island of Thassos, the ban also includes access to the beaches of Porto Vathi and Saliara (also known as marble beaches).
People contravening the rule face heavy penalties.
Yellow – High Risk
Orange – Very High Risk
