Magnetic Charging Cable

The new style magnetic charging cables are not specifically a holiday accessory, but they do have a number of advantages when on vacation, such as being sand and dust-proof and helping prevent ingress of water through the charging port of your device. Other features include a built-in green LED to show the cable is plugged in, a universal magnetic connector (i.e. the cable can be offered up either way to connect), and a very durable metal port and braided cable*.

To charge your device is simple, first insert the micro-plug (top left in photo) in the micro-USB port of your device (this stays permanently in your device), connect the USB end of the cable (right in photo) to your existing charging plug, then just offer up the magnetic connector on the other end of the cable (bottom left) to the permanent micro-plug in your device and it magnetically ‘snaps’ in to start charging.

We purchased the cable we reviewed on eBay (£10.99), although most electrical retailers offer similar products. This retailer offers a number of different options and you can purchase extra micro-plugs to allow you to charge multiple devices using just one cable. To disconnect the cable, move the cable sideways where it connects to your device and it will break the magnetic attraction.
