Due to the excessive temperatures across the country today, the government has implemented measures to protect workers. In Eastern Central Greece, Thessaly, Eastern Peloponnese, and Attica, it has been made mandatory for outdoor manual work to stop between 13:00 and 17:00, when the most dangerous temperatures are expected.

The measure includes workers in a wide range of jobs, such as construction sites, technical projects, shipbuilding and repair zones, as well as those employed in the distribution and delivery of products by open vehicles.

In all regions of the country, the government is urging private sector employers to implement all necessary measures to prevent heat stress, such as providing cool areas, frequent breaks, and drinking water, as well as adjusting working hours where possible.

Employers can be fined 2,000€ per employee for violation of the measures.

Today is expected to be the last day of this heatwave, with cooler and unsettled weather moving into the north of the country from the Balkans, initially bringing rain and thunderstorms in Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace.
