Lufthansa Cuts Flights

German airline Lufthansa has confirmed it will cut 20,000 short-haul flights over the summer, citing soaring fuel prices that make many journeys “unprofitable” for the company.

Lufthansa customarily offer flights to Kavala (Thassos), Rhodes, Kos and Santorini airports during the summer.

Scandinavian airline, SAS, which also usually offers flights to the Greek islands above, has confirmed that so far 1,000 flights have been cut from its April schedule.

Since the beginning of the war in the Middle East, the price of jet fuel has doubled as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has cut off supplies to the West.

Other airlines, such as KLM-France and Delta, have temporarily cut some flights, while others have raised ticket prices as they pass on expenses to customers.
