Monday, July 27 – Greece sends 4 firefighting aircraft to Spain to support the monumental effort to try to bring the unprecedented wildfires across the country under control.

The Spanish government has declared a state of emergency over the wildfires affecting several regions, including Ávila, León, Toledo and Madrid.

Authorities have declared that the fires are out of control, being very difficult to extinguish from a technical standpoint, and especially because of the adverse weather conditions of high temperatures and strong winds that continue to change direction.

Flames have devastated more than 50,000 hectares (123,500 acres) of countryside in Ávila, making it the biggest wildfire in Spain’s recent history, according to Environment Minister Sara Aagesen.

In France, President Emmanuel Macron will be holding a crisis cabinet meeting today as wildfires are only 15 km from the south-western city of Bordeaux.

The wildfires that have been raging across Europe over the past week, primarily in France and Spain, have led to over 330,000 people being evacuated across both countries.
