The National Observatory of Athens has confirmed that smoke from the wildfires in France has now reached Greece, according to satellite data utilised by the scientific unit of the observatory.

The Director of Research at the National Observatory of Athens stated that the data shows the path of the smoke cloud from the Bordeaux region in France towards the Atlantic, as well as its eastward transport towards the Mediterranean and to Greece, a distance of over 2,000 km.

According to measurements by the observatory, the smoke has reached an altitude of more than 2 kilometres above Greece. This means that it has no impact on human health and there is no reason for concern.

Observatories employ the latest high-power laser monitoring, which can confirm the location of smoke in the atmosphere, even at very high altitudes.
