Holidaymakers are being warned to check that their travel insurance covers all eventualities, especially given the current travel uncertainties.

A couple from Northallerton in North Yorkshire who were on holiday in Sri Lanka found to their horror that their return flight via the Qatari capital Doha was cancelled due to the outbreak of the Iran conflict.

On careful review of their annual travel insurance policy, they found it didn’t cover the effect of war, leaving them around £1,000 out of pocket as they had to personally pay for an alternative flight.

They also found that if only they had bought an inexpensive add-on to their insurance policy, then they would have been fully covered.
